Together with the children growing up in the settlements, we want to build a community where everyone can experience individual attention and solidarity, and where there is a positive vision for everyone.
The aim of the group programmes for children living in settlements is to develop their basic skills and abilities, and to sensitise our volunteers and secondary school students.
We support the development of children in settlements in many ways, such as supplementary activities to enhance their school development and individual mentoring, tailored to their needs. We wish to build a community with the local children, where everyone has a positive image regarding their future.
Besides the weekly programmes, we organise a one-week long summer camp at both settlements for altogether more, than 200 children. One week full of fun & games & sports!
I was impressed, how the children who were so similar for the first sight, were transformed into small people with an own personality in my head. They gradually opened up to me the intricate mesh of their interconnected system, their rich emotional world, their attachment to their families and even to us, volunteers. In addition to passing values to children, we also learn from them: they stand as a mirror, we can learn a lot about our prejudices and our fears.
